February Meeting Information
|
|
Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 28,
2006, at Sage Creek Grill and Tap
Room Meadow Wood Courtyard 5851 South
Virginia Street. Time: 5:30p -
7:30p. (If you get lost, give Kurt a call at
742-6834.)
This month's topic is
Coaching: Speed Dating Style - Making Training
Stick, delivered by Ileana Vassiliou,
MBA, CPCC, Certified Professional Co-Active Coach,
and Kit Prendergast,
LCSW
Professional Trainers and Coaches
speed dating is based on the premise that their
partnership uniquely creates tools for solving the
knowledge transfer problem. This speed dating
process will require no training at all except for
the ability to stand up, sit down and move a seat
to your right when the time is up. If you have a
past or current knowledge transfer problem bring
it with you and get ready for the date of your
life! If you don't have a knowledge transfer
problem to bring to the meeting, just bring your
natural curiosity and engage with a fun tool for
creating partnerships.
It has been
determined in a recent study by Texas A&M
University that training is effective in
increasing knowledge, but applying that knowledge
back on the job is a "function of the favorability
of the post- training environment. Environmental
favorability is the extent to which the transfer
or work environment is supportive of the
application of new skills and behaviors learned or
acquired in training."
Who Should Attend?
If your organization is currently using training
or plans to, don't miss this
meeting.
Ileana is the President and
Founder of Leadership Unlimited and is a certified
professional coach and member of the International
Coaches Federation. She is a recognized executive
and leadership coach and designer of successful
training and coaching systems that transform
businesses and leaders. She has over 25 years of
leadership experience with Fortune 500
corporations in creating business solutions and
has led and conducted business in the United
States, Europe, Mexico and South
America.
Kit is a Career & Life Coach
and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to
her clients. She is a Licensed Clinical Social
Worker (LCSW) with 26 years experience working
with people in career and life transitions. She
partners with "busy" professionals who want to
make changes in their work or personal life but
are unsure how or where to start. She will
inspire, energize and focus you so that you can
accomplish your goals easier, faster, and with
greater personal satisfaction. Kit has worked as a
psychotherapist for Kaiser Permanente HMO (West
& East coasts), lived in Norway for six years
specializing in cross-cultural education/training
and is an experienced trainer. She holds a Masters
in Social Work (MSW); clinical licenses in
California, Virginia and Nevada; is a certified
Myers Briggs Instructor and a certified Career
Development Facilitator (CDF) Instructor. She
received her coach training from the Institute for
Life Coach Training (ILCT), an accredited coach
training organization under the International
Coach Federation (ICF).

President's Letter: February 2006
|
|
So, you think you don't need a
coach?
Maybe you're like me and run your
own shop, call your own shots, make all of the
decisions, and have been successful so
far.
Or perhaps you're an upwardly mobile
professional balancing work, child-rearing, and
marital responsibilities with a demanding,
stressful, yet fulfilling (or maybe unfulfilling)
career.
What could a coach possibly add to
your professional and personal life? Who has the
time? We already have all of the answers
anway...right?
Well, the irony is (and my
coaching friends confirm this...you know who
you are), that it's the successful among us
who need and can benefit from a coaching
relationship the most.
Believe it or not,
learning how to deal with success is an
issue with many people who feel that what they've
achieved is not deserved.
And who among us
hasn't fought to strike the elusive "work-life
balance" that we're supposed to have?
And
how many of us find ourselves repeating patterns
in our lives that sabotage us personally or
professionally...over, and over again? We just
know we'll get it right "next time" only to see
history repeat itself.
Or do others hold
you up as a model of personal and professional
success, but inside you know how unfulfilled you
feel?
Still think you don't need a
coach?
One of the coach's roles is to
turn our energies inward to shine the analytical
light we tend to reserve for our employers or our
clients onto ourselves. The International Coach
Federation (http://www.
coachfederation.org) likens a coach's role to
a tug-boat; powerful and dynamic in its own right,
but whose true purpose is to push, pull, nudge,
and guide the large ship through treacherous or
infrequently navigated waters until a safe harbor
is reached.
Whether you've been skeptical
about coaches and coaching in general, or you're
already a believer, or you're interested in
becoming a coach yourself, don't miss the chance
to meet and work with two of Reno's best at this
month's membership meeting (see details
above).
Who among us couldn't benefit from
a little push or nudge here and there to get us
where we need to go?
Kurt Frohlich ASTD Sierra Nevada
Chapter President, 2006
