    The March ASTD Meeting will be for a half hour more due to the topic and speaker. Please advertise this and try to bring guests so we have a full house. We will meet on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The topic: "Preventing Death by Lecture" - More Terrific Tips for Turning Listeners into Learners! Place: Washoe Medical Center, Remedies

    Be prepared for an evening of high energy, lots of learning and fun with Sharon L. Bowman, M.A. Sharon has been an author, teacher, trainer, and consultant for over thirty years. She is a terrific trainer and will share her new learning and training tips with ASTD. She works with people who want to fine-tune their information-giving skills and companies that want to offer exceptional staff development programs. She provides staff development and human resource programs for colleges, school districts, government agencies, and private businesses across the country. She specializes in making learning hands-on, interactive, fun, and memorable. Her services include presenting interactive keynote addresses, high-energy conference sessions, workshops, and seminars. She also offers personal coaching services for teachers, trainers, and public speakers who want to create interactive learning experiences or fine-tune existing ones.     If you're like me, then you're always looking for new resources on training trends and practices, so this month I'm passing on a few cyber destinations that you may want to check out:

    American Society for Training and Development (ASTD): Of course no such list is complete without prominent mention of ASTD, "the world's premier professional association and leading resource on workplace learning and performance issues"! The ASTD national website provides information, research, analysis, and practical information.

    Employment Policy Foundation : A nonprofit, nonpartisan research and educational foundation that focuses on workplace trends and policies. Includes searchable articles on trends, training and education, and workplace demographics.

    GoCertify.Com: An online resource for certification information, covering over 400 certifications from more than 40 vendors.

    International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI): A leading international association dedicated to improving productivity and performance in the workplace. Includes valuable resources such as the Performance Improvement Journal for trainers and human resource professionals.

    Learnativity.com: A site that fosters learning, productivity, and creativity in training development practices. Includes resources, articles, and directories to assist training professionals in curricula and program design.

    National Alliance of Business (NAB): A national business organization focused on increasing student achievement and improving the competitiveness of the workforce.

    TCM.com's Training and Development Resource Center: A comprehensive list of training and development links and online resources maintained and supervised by human resource and training professionals.

    The Herman Group: An organization that specializes in predicting and forecasting workplace issues and trends. Free electronic newsletter, Trend Alert, is available.

    The New Corporate University Review: A resource for corporate university professionals on trends and issues in corporate learning. Includes article excerpts from the Corporate University Review, an Ask-The-Experts section, and a moderated listserv.

    Training and Development Practitioner's Site: An online resource for all levels of training and development professionals. Features articles, external links, and free discussion groups that explore trends and issues in training.

    Training Magazine: This online magazine provides a holistic view of trends in the training world, up-to-date salary surveys, innovations in workplace training programs, and a who's who in the fast-paced world of corporate training.

    Achieving Business Results through Training : This report, published by the Forum Corporation, examines lessons learned through the study of hundreds of corporate learning programs. The report outlines five core principles in learning systems and processes that help link training to business results.
