  • Greetings!

Our November meeting is the "ASTD Wine and Networking Event!" Wednesday, November 19th at The Grill Fish Restaurant

    Alas!

Your humble (new) newsletter editor apologizes for the paultry selection of articles presented this month. I waited as long as possible in the vain hope that more articles would appear, but it was not to be.

Please tie a string on your finger to remind yourself during this busy holiday season to find or write some articles for the December newsletter.

Please send articles to dan@telosinteractive.com no later than the 5th of the month.

How to Make the Best of a Potential Training Disaster
Here are some specifics that came out of our September program, "Humps, Hurdles, and Hazards: Handling the Worst Moments in Training", with Pat Lees, new Dean of Instruction at Western Nevada Community College in Carson City:

Facilities & Logistics Nightmares Clarify and confirm room arrangements, seating, equipment needs, handout numbers in writing well ahead of time and copy everyone involved, from hotel staff to building operations; assume they do not communicate with each other.

Prepare for all contingencies; arrive early and know who to contact if the room is too hot/cold, setup is wrong (ask students to help rearrange, if need be), equipment is missing or broken, you need an extension cord, your materials do not arrive; there are twice as many attendees as you expected; your training time is cut short by a fire alarm; the room is not wheelchair accessible; be prepared with 25-30% more materials, and be sure to request/require suitable changes right away.

If disrupted by a nearby group: request a move; ask the other group to be quieter; send students to another area to work on an activity and return.

    The word is out...
By now you should all have received an invoice for your 2004 membership. Remember, if you pay before or at the November meeting the Wine & Networking event is free!!!

You have several options to register your membership, mail or bring a check to the event, go to our website and pay with your credit card online or let me know that you are pledging your 2004 membership and that you will pay in January (this is especially for those of you whose companies will not pay in 2003 for a 2004 expense).

Your membership will help us expand our impact in the Training and Development marketplace here in Reno/Sparks. We look forward to seeing you in November and in 2004!

    Beth Blackwood
