Wine Tasting is set for 5:30pm-7:30pm, this Wednesday the 16th at Sage Creek Grill and Tap Room!

Join us for some much needed celebration and social networking at one of our most popular events of the year. Sage Creek is on South Virginia Street, just past Barnes and Noble and Wild Oats, in the Meadowood Court Motel.

Our Fall event "Proving Worth - Business Acumen for HR and Training Professionals" that was to be held on December 8th will have to be POSTPONED.

We had some logistical issues with two venues, so we're working details out for that right now. It will still be hosted by Mr. Chuck Shields, and we're looking for a January/February date. So stay tuned for more details to come.

    President's Message from Chris Champagne

We're gearing up for our December Board Retreat on December 4th. I can safely say the only real hiccup we've had this year was around events. We were able to make major strides in our by-law and operating process, and National liked our stuff so much they asked us to share it with other chapters. So that's a nice endorsement.

Membership is strong and this upcoming event is always a nice recruiting and renewal time for the chapter. I really think we're in a spot to have a fabulous 2006. Please let us know any input you may have for 2006, or if you can help with any of our volunteer efforts. Remember, we're not asking for a blank check from volunteers. There can be simple, specific things that can help out a bunch with ongoing chapter events and operations. So don't be shy and let any board member know you'd like to be included.

The election and survey results, plus the Retreat information will be published in next month's newsletter. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the wine tasting!

    Conference Review
Learning 2005 Held in Orlando, FL 30 OCT-2 NOV 05

Elliot Masie always hosts interesting events, and he's rarely boring. This was the first time I'd ever attended one of his solo-produced events, and he didn't disappoint. 1500 learning professionals descended on the Disney Coronado Springs Resort and Convention Center in Orlando for lively talk and debate on the new trends in learning and new methods of delivery and retention.

Learning 2005 could really be broken down into three main camps that I could see. Organizational leaders, like CLO's, who care about learning, and the Instructional Design and E-Learning crowds.

Authors like Steve Johnson, Malcolm Gladwell, Marshall Goldsmith and Frances Hesselbein were keynotes, among others. The sessions themselves were unlike the normal convention fare, and were geared to be much more interactive.

Elliot also took the time out to work with some new media services that allowed real-time input from the audience during keynote sessions, and also provided a very robust Learning Wiki, Blogging and Virtual Community offering that allowed participants to interact before, during and after the conference.

Visit the URL http://www.learning2005.com for more details, but this conference is now on my "go to from now on" list.
