March 2007 Meeting Reminder
|
|
|
Our next monthly meeting is
Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at The Atlantis
Casino Resort (3800 S. Virginia Street,
Reno)
Time: 5:30 -
7:30pm
This month's topic is Speed
Date a Coach
Speed Date A Coach is a
great way to be introduced to the concepts of
coaching and to actually have a chance to
experience coaching first hand. This program
begins with an overview of what coaching is,
industry trends and how coaching enhances life and
business performance. Members of the audience will
then have the opportunity to experience coaching
firsthand. In a brief period, the audience chooses
a person from their small group and a coach
provides a brief coaching interaction; when the
bell rings the coach moves to another table to
repeat the process. This is experienced coaches
providing an experience on real issues for a short
period of time while others at the table observe.
If you've heard about coaching and wanted to know
more or experience the process, this is the
program for you.
The Nevada Professional
Coaches Association (NPCA) is comprised of
business and life coaches from diverse
backgrounds, training and experience. The only
professional coaching organization in Nevada ,
NPCA is a Charter Chapter of the International
Coach Federation (ICF), the globally recognized
leader in professional coaching.
You won't
want to miss it so be sure to RSVP
today.
Cost: Full and Corporate members: No
charge; ASTD Basic Members: $15.00; Quarterly

President's Letter: March 2007
|
|
Springtime Greetings!
Whatever you do - do not miss the March
meeting!
If you have never experienced
coaching, you are in for an eye-opening treat. If
you are familiar with coaching, you will
experience some of our community's finest coaches
at work.
Yes, I am biased, as well as
blessed. One of my fondest ASTD meeting memories
is attending one titled "How to Make Leadership
Development Successful", facilitated by one of our
local certified coaches, Illeana Vassiliou. Much
to my amazement, Illeana managed to not only
provoke thoughts regarding leadership, but her
"coach-like" approach had each participant
figuring out their life purpose; that is quite an
accomplishment within a one hour presentation.
Amazing stuff!
I look forward to seeing all
of you at this meeting, yet another quality event
made possible by your Sierra Nevada ASTD Chapter.
Regards, Donna Chase ASTD
Sierra Nevada Chapter President, 2007
P.S.
Don’t forget to renew your membership!!!

What is Coaching? |
|
by Liz Christoffersen
Basics of The Coaching
Relationship
The coach works with a
client who is aware of the need to change and who
is willing to include another party in the design,
implementation and success of it. Coaches work
with clients to become fully self- generative by
being whole and well; take the smart actions
rather than just be busy; build a sustaining
community for love, resources and
support.
Most clients hire a coach in order
to accomplish something specific, whether personal
or professional; to restore their heart, soul and
quality of life; and to contribute well by
discerning, developing and sharing their
gifts.
During coaching, the following
methods are used: sharing information by drawing
distinctions, teaching principles and offering
perspective. The coach provides structure, asks
for the stretch, expects the client’s best and
provides unconditional constructive support.
Training shows up in coaching when the coach
models behavior for the client, walks the client
through growth steps and gives specialized
instruction.
The process of coaching occurs
daily, regardless of how often a “formal” session
is held. Coaching takes place in conversation,
scheduled appointments, success calls, through
buddy systems, via seminars, reading and
studying.
Considering the
results:
The coach guides a process of
insight, perspective, creativity and
accountability so that you will go further, faster
and/or easier to your goal and strengthen a lot of
other areas of your life or business in the
process. You can look at the value of coaching
from a variety of sources and
angles.
Coaching is proven to work when
these two factors are present: The client is
willing to grow and there is a gap between where
they are now and where they want to be. That is
all that is necessary for the client and the coach
to solve problems, create a new life, turn a
business around, double sales and profitability,
and design and implement a plan of action or
create whatever else is called for to ensure
clients have what they need to get more of what
they want.
