Shaken and Stirred Greetings
One of my favorite sayings is "If you always do what
you always did, then you will always get what you
always got."
This month our chapter is taking a step outside the
box, holding our monthly membership meeting at New
Horizons Computer Learning Center in order to bring
you the latest and greatest in "Presenting and Training
via the Web."
Having the meeting in a computer lab will enable
everyone attending to get first hand experience from a
top notch computer training professional.
Please join us at New Horizons to take advantage of
this great opportunity to learn from the pros, as well
as each other, as we explore web training
possibilities.
Also, please RSVP - ASAP so we know how much
delicious food to bring (I learned early on that "if you
feed them, they will come")!
This will be groundbreaking meeting and opportunity
that you will not want to miss!
Regards,
Donna Chase

Open Board Positions
|
|
|
Asking for help is never easy. And we are
in a position, where we could certainly use
some extra assistance. We have several key
leadership positions open. They are in the
areas of marketing, treasury and special events.
If you've thought about making more of
a commitment and are searching for a way to
give back, this is it. Please see one of the
Board members at our May meeting or contact
Liz at 853-2530 or via email at empoweru2@sbcglobal.net
Thank you so much.

How Will Mass Collaboration Change Training
|
|
by Tory Atkins, VP of Communications
After discussing "Training Across the Generations" at
our February meeting, I came to a realization that I
was losing my status of being a "tech-savvy" Gen Xer
with the emergence of so many new collobaration
technologies. I have since become enlightened and
felt the need to share my exploration with you.
Fortunately, one of my Baby Boomer coworkers has
been keeping up on the learning technologies being
driven by the Millenial generation and sent me a link to
an eLearning Forum class by Don Tapscott, author of
Wikinomics:
How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything.
After listening to Mr. Tapscott, I was hooked and
rushed to read his book. In April, the eLearning
Forum specifically discuss the application of
Wikinomics to learning. You can access these
classes for free at
http://elearningforum.vportal.net/main.cfm
Wikinomics explains that the Net is no longer just
about Web sites - it's changing innovation, the
corporation, and every industry. I'd recommend
reading the book and jump into conducting your own
research to explore how the Millenial
generation is pushing a change in learning pedagogy
from teacher-based to a collaboration between
teacher and learners and how the creation of learning
content will transition from expert-based to mass
collaboration of learners with an expert moderator.
